Why is family photography so important to me and why do I do it?

Living room with beige sectional sofa, decorative pillows, and family portraits on the wall.

True story: I actually thought about giving up photography a few years ago. However, a husband and wife called me for a session. It was unassuming and we got along quite well, so I listened and decided.

After the session, the wife (35 years old) got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. I photographed the pictures, they selected from the gallery, and I delivered the prints personally to their home through the snow (it was VERY much winter at the time!).

A few days after our session, she went into Chemotherapy and lost her hair.

She died shortly after and I went to the funeral.

After the day where I saw my photos spread around the chapel and seeing people mourn her based at least partly on my photos, I never questioned why I do what I do ever again.
